Respite Unit
San Diego Regional Center Respite
The YMCA CRS Respite Unit provides families short-term relief from the continual care of the child with developmental disabilities. In-Home Respite Care:
In-Home respite is care provided in the child's home by staff
hired by YMCA CRS specifically to care for children with developmental
disabilities. Each In-Home respite provider must have current CPR and First Aid
cards, must clear a criminal background screening, and have experience working with children. Employment reference checks are completed on all respite provider applicants.
The benefits of In-Home Respite include:
- Individualized care
- Ability of the child to be in his or her own home in familiar surroundings
- Flexible schedules
Out-of-Home Respite Care:
Out-of-Home respite is care provided outside of the child's home in a licensed child care facility. Care may be provided either in a licensed child care center or in a licensed family child care home. Family child care homes are run by individuals who are licensed by the state to have a child care business in their home.
YMCA CRS contracts with licensed facilities that have expressed an interest in including children who are on our respite program in their child care programs.Ratios for family child care homes are approximately 1 adult for every six children. Ratios for center based programs vary from 1:8 to 1:14, depending on the age of the children in the program.
The benefits of Out-of-Home respite include:
- Socialization
- Large pool of providers
- Child care availability in addition to respite hours
- The ability for parents to have a respite break in their home while their child is engaged in activities outside of the home.
